Signs your brakes or suspension need attention

Brakes and suspension are your vehicle's most critical safety systems. Address these symptoms promptly:

Common signs

  • Grinding or squealing noise when applying the footbrake
  • Vibration or shudder felt through the steering wheel or brake pedal when slowing down
  • Spongy or low brake pedal feel requiring extra foot pressure
  • Clunking, knocking, or rattling noises when driving over bumps, potholes, or speed bumps
  • Vehicle sagging on one corner or bouncing excessively after bumps
  • MOT advisory for worn brake pads, pitted brake discs, or leaking shock absorbers

Urgent signs

  • Brake warning light or ABS light illuminated on dash
  • Vehicle pulling severely to one side under braking
  • Loud metallic snap sound followed by sudden drop in ride height (broken coil spring)

SAFETY FIRST: Worn brakes increase stopping distances dramatically. A broken coil spring can puncture your tyre at speed. ADL carries out mobile replacements right where your car is parked so you don't drive an unsafe vehicle.

Plain-English explanation

How mobile brake & suspension repairs work

Braking systems rely on hydraulic pressure pushing friction pads against cast-iron discs. Over time, pads wear down to their metal backing plates, causing severe disc scoring and reduced stopping power.

Suspension systems (McPherson struts, coil springs, shock absorbers, drop links, and wishbone control arms) absorb road impacts and keep your tyres firmly planted on the tarmac.

Shropshire's rural roads and potholes take a heavy toll on coil springs and suspension bushes. A cracked spring or worn drop link causes knocking noises, uneven tyre wear, and unsettled handling.

Aaron replaces worn brake components in axle pairs (both front or both rear) using high-grade OE-matching parts (Pagid, Brembo, Bosch, Febi Bilstein). We clean hub faces, lubricate slider pins, and torque wheel bolts to manufacturer specs.

Vehicle-specific note: Electronic Park Brake (EPB): Modern vehicles with electric handbrakes require diagnostic scan tools to retract the electronic calipers into service mode before rear brake replacement. We carry full EPB diagnostic tools for all makes.

What affects brake & suspension replacement cost?

Axle & Component Selection

Replacing front brake pads & discs vs rear EPB brakes or full coil springs.

Vehicle Size & Performance Rating

Large 4x4s (e.g. Range Rover, L200) or heavy vans require larger diameter vented discs than small hatchbacks.

Electronic Handbrake vs Mechanical

EPB systems require diagnostic software retraction.

No Cheap Noise-Prone Parts: We install high quality friction materials to ensure silent, shudder-free braking.

The issue. Grinding sound from rear brakes, electric handbrake warning on dash, broken front driver coil spring.

What Aaron did. Mobile repair in Telford. EPB retracted via scan tool; fitted rear Brembo discs & pads and new front Lesjöfors coil spring.

The result. Silent braking restored, handbrake reset, smooth level ride height achieved.

Aaron came out to my workplace in Telford. Fitted new rear discs and pads with his diagnostic tool for the electric handbrake and replaced a broken front spring. Saved me taking a day off. First class!
