Oil Pressure Warning Light

Oil Pressure Warning Light

High priority warning

An oil pressure warning light is one of the most urgent dashboard warnings. Low oil pressure can damage an engine very quickly, so the right move is to stop driving and get the fault checked before restarting the vehicle.

How urgent is an oil pressure warning light?

Treat it as immediate — stop the engine as soon as it is safe. Running with low oil pressure can destroy bearings in minutes, far faster than most other warnings. If the level on the dipstick is low and you can top up with the correct grade without overfilling, that may explain a sensor trip, but do not assume the light is wrong and keep driving. Aaron checks oil level and condition, pressure sensor readings where applicable, and signs of pump or internal wear during inspection. Some causes are straightforward; others mean the engine should not be restarted until assessed. Call from where you are if you are in Shropshire — do not motorway drive hoping the light goes out. WhatsApp or call with vehicle details and whether the light appeared suddenly or with knocking noise from the engine. Time matters with this warning.

What to do next

Stop driving immediately and arrange a proper inspection. Running an engine with low oil pressure can cause expensive damage in minutes.
